Allen (tired, about midnight): I had some of the cookies in the fridge. I thought they were Jill's gingerbread cookies.
Me: Were they shaped like DOG BONES?
Allen: I dunno.
Me: OK, well if they were shaped like DOG BONES, they were probably the dog biscuits Alyssa made today.
Allen (laughing): Well, I wondered what the hell was wrong with those cookies.

from dogtreatkitchen dot com under Peanut Butter Dog Biscuit Recipe with Oatmeal
2 cups whole wheat flour (or other type of flour if desired)
1 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup peanut butter (chunky or smooth)
1 1/4 cups hot water
flour for rolling doggie dough
1 egg for egg wash (optional)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix dry ingredients together.
Mix in the peanut butter and hot water. You may need to add more water if the dough is too sticky.
Knead the dough well. (If you used a stand mixer, you don't need to knead that much).
Roll out the dough into 1/4" thickness and cut into shapes with doggie cookie cutters. Beat the egg lightly in a bowl and brush on cookies for a shiny look, if desired.
Pierce each a couple of times with a fork to prevent puffing up. (Our photo shows that we skipped this step and our treats are a bit puffier than we would have liked.)
Bake on a lightly greased cookie sheet for 40 minutes. (We used convection on 350 for 25 minutes.)
